Family Message

COXSEDGE, Joan
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Coxsedge on the 14th of January 2024.
Joan was a rebel, a fighter for many causes, a woman who endeavoured to create a more equitable and just world. Our mother and grandmother achieved many firsts, including becoming the first woman to become a member of the Legislative Council in Victoria.
Born in Ballarat on the 5th of January 1931, daughter of Roy and Marjorie Rochester, Joan married her soul mate Cedric in 1953, a marriage that lasted for 65 years.
Mother to Sue, David and Chris, mother-in-law to Anne and Jang and proud grandmother of Sophie, Baden and Sean, Joan lived a rich life of political activism, art, travel and writing.
Warm and heartfelt thanks to the staff at Bluecross, Highgrove, for their care and support of Joan.

A memorial service for Joan will be held on Saturday (February 24, 2024) at 2pm, at the Unitarian Church in East Melbourne.

For those who cannot attend the service will be Live Streamed via the 'View Event video' link to be added in the grey box below as soon as possible.

Messages of love and support for the family may be left via the Signature Book below.

In lieu of flowers donations to Medicines Sans Frontiers would be appreciated.
