It was a pleasure to get to know Wallace through my involvement with the Bibliographical Society of Australia and New Zealand. A great scholar of French language and literature and of book history and bibliography. I enjoyed our conversations over the years.

I first met Wallace in 1970 and over the years he was always interested in and encouraged me in my pursuit of books. He was a man of deep learning and was always generous with his time and knowledge. He will be sadly missed by his many friends in the book world. My condolences to Joan.

I remember Professor Kirsop's seminars with great fondness. He was an inspiration and a great help to a then young librarian, bibliographer and historian.

Wal was always a welcome visitor at our shop, over five decades. I will very much miss both his erudition and his inspiring love of books. He was a great friend to the Australian rare book trade and I felt privileged to count him as a friend myself. With my condolences to his devoted wife Joan.

I was privileged to meet Wal during my tenure as Emmerson Fellow at the State Library earlier this year. I was hugely impressed by his razor sharp intellect and memory, and his wide-ranging knowledge of early modern books. But more than that, his curiosity and openness to new ideas was wonderful. I was fortunate to benefit from his knowledge, his generosity and his hospitality -- it was an honour to meet him.My sincere condolences to Joan on the passing of her beloved husband.
