Quentin Edward Fogarty

Logie-winning journalist | author | legendary smartarse | honourable gentleman | beloved family man & friend.
Born Dunedin NZ 1946. Died Melbourne 2020.

We presumed he’d be stirring the pot, razzing us mercilessly, acing online quizzes, racing around Melbourne on his bike, hanging with his sons, playing with the grandchildren and giving brother Tony shit well past his 100th.

But it wasn’t to be. Quentin suddenly left the building 04 July aged 73. He’d retired from a long and illustrious media career just a week earlier. He was excitedly preparing to move to Perth to live with son Dan and family. He was working on his passion - producing documentaries with cameraman son Ben (Sydney).

The evening before he died, Quentin had watched the footy and fine-dined with son Sam, then enjoyed much banter on the family’s whatsapp group with his sons including Jason (Christchurch), and also ex-wife and good buddy fellow journalist Sue Ahearn (Melbourne).

Quentin’s large and lively clan spans NZ and Oz, and includes his sisters Suzanne, Helen, Sally, Anita and Marian, rascally brother Tony, grandchildren Jack, Finn, Oscar, Charlotte, Flo, Louis and Thom.

Wherever he’s gone, “Let’s hope they’re friendly.”
