Our part of the family had real affection for John, and I, personally, appreciated his way of suddenly thinking of something that would be of mutual interest - like a book, or newspaper article, and sending it vial mail. Years ago, my dad and I were in Sydney, and John visited us at the Motel to hear dad's personal story of a Naval event in the Pacific which took place in the 1920's. It thrilled my dad to talk about it, and I will always remember John bringing me a rose and taking me out to a restaurant that evening. God bless.
