I learned today of the sad passing of my friend Peter Petroff and it has affected me deeply.I last saw Peter in December of 2019 at the 50th anniversary reunion of our primary school premiership cricket team. It was a fantastic day with everyone talking and laughing as if it had only been yesterday that we had last seen each other. We talked about plans to make it an annual event but sadly we will now be missing one more treasured and valuable friend.I have known Peter since we met in Prep in 1963 at Gold Street State School, Clifton Hill. He moved to Spensley Street State School, Clifton Hill and I followed him there in 1966 in Grade 3 and we then went on to Fitzroy High School until Form 2 when my family moved. I recall attending Peters birthday parties at his home each year coincided with the end of the school year. Peter and his family always looked after some exuberant schoolboys with lots of food, gifts, and games! In later years I met up with Peter on several occasions when we would get together for lunch and chat about the old days. I didnt realise our most recent lunch in December would be the last time I would see him.To Elizabeth and family, I send my deep and heartfelt condolences on your tragic loss. I know you were very close, and you are feeling quitter shattered at the moment. Hopefully with the passage of time, your loving and happy memories of Peter coupled with everyones remembrances noted on here will partially fill the massive void Peters passing has left you. We will all fondly and lovingly remember your treasured brother and Uncle Peter. Vale Peter. Carn the Magpies!
