I met Mike in Malaysia in 2019. He easily kept up the superfit "youngins" who summited Mt.Kinabalu, but cheerfully made time to help me as I traveled a few minutes behind. Despite slowing him down again the next day, we got to see the world's largest flower in rare bloom. He laughed and talked easily with everyone in our group and struck me as a man for whom "no one is a stranger". He was kind, funny, humble and polite. We kept in touch infrequently after the trip with conversations about future travel, retirement, and the USA. I was confident that he'd be chasing more stamps for his passport sometime soon. I'm so sorry that we have to go on without him, but I'm so glad I met him.
