Dear Celia, Lucien and Astrid,Allow me please to commemorate my dear Australian cousin, Ulrik, taken from us far too early. From when we first met for Christmas in 1968 - you were ten, I was eight you were the wise, caring and perfectionist person that I came to know, and knew would always be there suddenly its just stopped. Although we were worlds apart, not least geographically, we met several times over the years in Europe and Australia, and shared many interests, starting with stamp collections (1968), over music, into wine, and throughout just caring for our small family. I will never forget how you were attending my mothers birthdays with letters and calls (partly in Danish) late in her life. Although the distance between us was far, we always considered you part of our close family. May your journey onwards be peaceful as you connect with your parents (Birte & Ian) and your brother (Christian), and we will find comfort in the memories we shared. We will miss you deeply.Your Danish familyKristian, Anne, Lotte & Nils

Dear Celia, Lucien and Astrid,I am so sad to be missing the chance to say goodbye to Ulrik. When Celia and Ulrik spent their first date sharing a table with Mark and me at the Exeter Hotel in Adelaide, I remember thinking that we were going to know each other for a long time. Little did I know just how true that would be. After working together for more than 20 years, Ulrik was not only my friend, but part of my daily life and my work family.Ulrik and I were similar in many ways. We both had fairly private exteriors, but were fiercely loyal to the people who mattered to us. There was an ease to our friendship. We were comfortable together, and I always knew that if I needed him, he would be there. I have missed his companionship since leaving work.Celia, I had imagined such a different future for you and Ulrik. After all those years of working hard, I thought there would be a long retirement ahead, with time to enjoy life together. I am so sad that you didn't get that time and the reward that you both deserved.Lucien and Astrid, although you are adults now, you are still far too young to have lost your dad. I know you will be a great source of strength for your mum, as she will be for both of you.I am heartbroken by the unfairness of it all, as I know everyone who knew and loved Ulrik must be. He was a very important part of my life for a very long time, and I will remember him with enormous affection. With all my love,Renata

To Celia, Astrid, Lucien and other members of your family. Helen and I met up with Ulrik only once in a while living as we do at the other end of Rucker St. I gathered that he was a biologist like myself, and always admired your garden. I also enjoyed my encounters with Ulrik over the years and will miss him, gentle smart and warm.
